Dzilam de Bravo – Merida Yucatan, Mexico

Dzilam de Bravo starts producing 70 megawatts through the 28 wind turbines of 2.5 megawatts each, which together generate approximately 240 gigawatts annually. The Master WRS specialized contractor performed the entire grout application, while the on-site staff and engineering firm training was carried out by Sika Mexicana SA personnel.

Project Requirements

This wind farm meant great challenges for concrete and grout. Inclement weather meant special considerations for the foundation, cooling the materials as well as the creation of micro-environments to provide the best conditions for care in fresh condition. One issue that kept the project developers very busy was the protection of steel in the area, as Dzilam de Bravo, Mexico is one of the top places in Latin America with steel corrosion potential.

One of the most important requirements for the customer was to present the SikaGrout®-3200 dynamic load resistance certificates (fatigue resistance). The fluidity and plastic behavior properties of the mixture even in the extreme temperature conditions prevailing in the region were decisive in the choice of Sika as a partner in the project. The pumping equipment did not have any complications with the grout, the rheology of the material allowing the free flow throughout the foundation, making a perfect filling.

Sika Solutions

The SikaGrout®-3200 was used for casting of elements and load transfer between tower and foundation. The SikaTop® Seal 107 was used to protect and waterproof all the foundation.
