Katherine Agapitos appointed as Chair for TfS Work Stream 5 - Scope 3 GHG Emissions (WS5)

Sika has been a member of the ‘Together for Sustainability’ (TfS) initiative since 2020. The organization aims to improve sustainability practice within the supply chain of the chemicals industry and now counts 36 member companies. With the appointment of Katherine, Sika further engages in delivering global standards for environmental, social, and governance performance of chemical supply chains. Defining a common approach to the calculation of PCF will create transparency in the chemical industry and enable effective reduction management.

Sika participated in the TfS Work Stream 5 - Scope 3 GHG Emissions (WS5) - from early 2021. Katherine has been actively contributing to the work package dedicated to developing standardized approaches for product carbon footprint calculations within the chemical industry. The guideline is currently being tested with TfS’s member and supplier base. Her additional engagement encompasses workstream related program management, operational steering, and leading work packages related to scope 3 GHG emissions in close collaboration with the WS5 Co-Chairs. The workstream is organized into four work packages: focusing on standardized GHG emission calculation methodologies; data collection and sharing approaches; supplier engagement; and co-operation with external stakeholders.

Chief Innovation & Sustainability Officer
"Sika and TfS share the ambition to be transparent in terms of estimating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of purchased goods in line with current standards and best practice." Patricia Heidtman, Chief Innovation and Sustainability Officer, Sika

To monitor reduction efforts for such “purchased emissions”, emission data on product and supplier level – PCFs – are required. The outcome of the work stream led by Katherine will be a harmonized and specific approach amongst chemical companies for the PCF calculation.

Marcos Vazquez, Head of Procurement at Sika
"The new assignment of Katherine is an excellent opportunity for us to share our experience with major chemical industry players and to bring the overall sustainability performance of the entire industry to the next level." Marcos Vazquez, Head of Procurement, Sika

The PCF guideline will be publicly available in Autumn 2022. In addition, TfS Work Stream 5 will pilot an IT sharing solution that will enable a community of PCF Guideline users to share data safely– working together to advance the sector. The aim is to launch this sharing solution in 2023.
