Sika® Plastiment® P-121 R

Water Reducing and Set Retarding

A liquid concrete plasticizer and high range water reducing agent with set retarding effect.
Complies with A.S.T.M. C 494-92 Type D

Sika® Plastiment® P-121 R provides the following properties:
  • Increased setting time in hot weather. Accelerated hardening after setting.
  • Improved workability without increase water content.
  • Reduced water without loss of workability.
  • Increased strengths.
  • Reduced shrinkage and creep.

Usage

Sika® Plastiment® P-121 R is used as a general purpose admixture where the placing conditions for high quality concrete are more demanding such as :
  • Elevated temperatures.
  • Fair faced concrete.
  • Pumped concrete.
  • Ready mix concrete.
 
  • Areas where large volumes must be placed at one time.
  • High mechanical strengths are required

Technical Information

Concreting Guidance

The standard rules of good concreting practice, concerning production and placing, are to be followed.
Laboratory trials before concreting on site are strongly recommended when using a new mix design or producing new concrete components.
Fresh concrete must be cured properly and as early as possible.

Compatibility

Sika® Plastiment® P-121 R is compatible with all types of Portland cement including S.R.C.

DISPENSING

Sika® Plastiment® P-121 R should be dispensed directly into the mixing water prior to its addition to the aggregates.
When accidental overdosing occurs, Sika® Plastiment® P-121 R does not entrain excessive amounts of air, however the set retarding effect increases. During this period the concrete must be kept moist in order to prevent premature drying out.
Consumption

Recommended Dosage

0.10 - 0.35 % by weight of cement (typical dosage : 0.20 % by weight of cement)
The dosage rate can be increased up to 0.45 % to overcome difficulties in quality of cement and aggregates, high temperature and difficult placing conditions or in the use of highly absorbent aggregate).
It is advisable to carry out trial mixes to establish the exact dosage rate required.
